AT THE FOOT OF THE SÄNTIS MOUNTAIN

 

Actually we wanted to hike another ridge along the chain of the Famous Säntis mountain in the canton of St Gallen. As we were at the counter of the cable car bringing us to the top, we were looked like we would be tourists from abroad.. then at the beginning of June, you cannot expect to have all passages free of snow. So instead of spending 40 CHF for nothing, we quickly changed our plan and walked in direction of Ennetbrüh. Never been there, but the trail seemed to be far from the roads (never forget: all motorbikes love driving their loud machines on Switzerland...). so here are our impressions of the tour.

Route: Säntis Schwebebahn Tal Station, Spicher, Gössigen, Ennetbühl

 

We took the car as we had a fast 1:15h drive to the parking lot of the Säntis station. The bus took us back to the car within 20 minutes - very convenient.

Also: we recommend this tour on a sunny day, because most of the hike is in the forest so it kept us cool despite the low altitudes (900m - 1400m). Hiking shoes are highly recommended, some passages might be slippery and the obstacles put by the farmers to prevent animals to escape are sometimes pretty tough to cross.
